Successful Adoptions

Our letters from our adopters will surely make you SMILE :)

 Hi everyone,

About four days ago, Neva got one of those "two years ago on this day" alerts from one of her social media accounts, and it was about the day we brought Abby home. So, we thought we'd send an update.

It has been an absolutely wonderful two years with her. We took her through basic and advanced training classes, and we'll probably be enrolling in another one soon. She loves working with us. Every day, either Neva or I take her to an off-leash park, a hike on some nearby trails or a nice long walk around the neighborhood (usually after she slips under my desk and pokes her face out from under my keyboard to let me know it's time to go). My mom adopted a yellow lab named Otis, and the two have become fast friends. We took them both to the shore for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Otis loved it; Abby wasn't a big fan of the water, but she did enjoy chasing Otis across the sand. A couple of months ago, we stopped crating her when we went out, so she has the run of the house and no longer chews up any shoes while we're gone. Every night, she hops into our bed, and we often get a face-full of snuffles and licking when our alarms go off (never before, though! she's great about letting us sleep in when we're not working). She's still trying to get the cats to love her, but those two are fickle beasts. Some day...

Anyway, thanks again for putting us together. She is a joy and a comfort, and we try to be the same for her.

And now we're off to the park.

All the best,
Mike, Neva & Abby

As promised, here are some pictures of Brownie at Christmas. He is such an amazing dog, and has settled in so quickly and so well. His manners are amazing, and he has the sweetest temperament. Everyone who meets him is in love with him. I just cannot believe how gentle and loving he is so quickly after meeting us.

I wish I had more to report back, but he has blended into the family so seamlessly. He enjoys running with the children in the back yard but also snuggling up on the couch and watching Christmas movies. Every night he helps to put the kids to bed. He lays with each of them in turn as I read them their books. First my son, then my daughter. He stays with her until she falls asleep, then comes back down to the den to finish the evening cuddling on the couch with my husband and I.

Santa Paws brought Brownie a stocking full of dog treats as well as some gifts under the tree. New toys to play with and a ball to chase.

Thank you again for saving him, and allowing him to become part of our family.

Merry Christmas,

The Schwarz Family

Heather, Dan, Claire and Andrew

I just wanted to email you and let you know how very grateful I am that you allowed me to adopt this guy! My daughter renamed him Dougie...Douglas, if we are being silly and pretending to talk serious to him.  Dougie has been an amazing addition to our family. He sleeps with me and Lolly at night (my shihtzu who has accepted Dougie and shares the bed nicely with him).

He loves to go for rides, walks so well on a leash, he's good at fetch,  he's so calm and easy going.  He let me bathe him, use the hair dryer on him, and brush him no questions asked. I crate him during the day and am working towards letting him roam free during my work day.  My mom comes and steals him during some days and he rides to take my daughter to school and visits my 96 y/o grandpap across the street.

I could not have asked for a better dog and I am so thankful to you! I promise to take good care of him and love him all of his life. I feel like I hit the jackpot and he was meant to be mine.

We are the family that came exactly a week ago to adopt Sophia. She is a perfect fit for our family and I don't think we would be able to love her any more than we already do. Old Charlie even likes her although he is not willing to admit it yet. :)

She has been such a great dog. She is doing very well with her continued crate training and has only had a few accidents in the house so we are thrilled with her adjustment. She has become quite the expert on performing multiple amputations on her stuffed toys. She literally loves them to death. :)

When she is good she is Sophie. When she misbehaves, which isn't often, she is "Sophia Grace". She already has a favorite spot in the house that she goes to hide her toys and chewy treats. Her favorite thing to do is give lots of love and cuddle!

Thank you so much for all your help. We love her so much.

Just wanted to let you know Duke is doing great with us! He and his new brother, Herman, are the best of friends! We were out all day yesterday and Saturday in the beautiful weather!
We had a blast!

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for asking about Boss (we renamed him).  He is really coming out of his shell and is so lovable!  He has been on vacation with us to Florida and liked the beach but was not sure of the ocean!  Shelby (our lab) and Boss get along very well.  I have been working with him on basic obedience, but will be taking him to class next month.

I will send a few pictures.  I think he is adjusting well to his new home!

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay!  I've actually thought about reaching out to you guys to give you an update on everything on my end but just haven't had much time.

So we re-named her Olive because of her green eyes.

She caught on pretty quickly and has never had an issue with either of the boys.  Jack was extremely stand-offish the first two weeks or so, but they are connected at the hips now.

She basically doubled in weight after two weeks.  Her worms were gone the very next day that we took her home which was awesome.  She didn't have an accident inside until about a week in.  Any time that there's been one, it's without a doubt been mine or Jess' fault.  We've actually taken her to puppy class and she's done incredible.  She's a very smart dog and has caught on within minutes.

One thing that I've found unique about the whole experience is seeing her grow and slowly let her guard down.  We've gone at her pace and you can slowly see little bits and pieces of her come out on a day to day basis.  She went from sleeping at the end of the bed and not enjoying being held, to having to be the attention and the one giving you kisses.  And best of all, when you get her away from the boys, she's so well behaved and such a sweet heart.

It was scary going into the whole thing not knowing what she had in her (breed) but we are more than pleased and so thankful that you guys gave us the chance to give her a good life.  After the whole experience, every dog here on out will be a rescue.

I've attached a few pics.  I'm sure I'll have plenty more in the future.

Thanks again,

Happy New Year to all! I received your newsletter. It was nice to see all the good things you are doing. Thomas is well. I spoke with someone on the phone shortly after his surgery. It has made a big improvement. He has no troubles going to the bathroom. No more walking all over the yard trying to go. Over Thanksgiving it was a bit stressful as he seemed to lose his house training, but he is better now. Although when I am home, we go out more often as he is up and about and drinks more.
I took a sample on Friday to have him checked for worms. The vet said in November he needed another treatment as he was still not clear. I am hoping this will be it. He looks to have gained a bit of weight, but is so active. I feed him about the same as our 45 lb dog, Max.
Thomas is a sweetie. He loves his food, walks and running around the yard. One pic shows he picked up my daughter's boot and as carrying it around. Thanksgiving we kept them out of the kitchen - they go nuts for the turkey. They did have some cooked neck, liver, etc. mixed with their dry food.
Thanks for Thomas!

 Hi Sue,

On Friday, my little boy, Micah, and I brought Skylor home, and she is about as cute, sweet, friendly, playful, relaxed and confident as a kitty can be. We are in love with her! Carolyn, the very kind and knowledgeable staff person who handled our adoption, mentioned that you all love to hear how the pets who've been adopted are doing, and I promised to send pictures from time to time. Thought I'd start with the attached from Skylor's first night with us. Shortly after her first round of exploring her new digs, she made herself completely at home. She is wonderful with Micah who equally enjoys keeping her active and snuggling with her.

Our only regret is that we could not adopt both Skylor and Cedo, who was also an awesome little cat. I keep telling Micah that he'll surely have a home soon, and we're looking forward to seeing "ADOPTED" next to his name on Petfinder.

Dear Carolyn

Thank you for your message! We are very pleased with Miracle. She has brought a great deal of joy to our lives. When people visit us they are often surprised at just how social she is. It has been great to have her with us.

Thanks again for being in touch.

Hi there,

Tanner is still the BEST dog ever and such a great addition to our family... Here are a few pics! He is so special and makes all three kids and my husband and me so happy! So glad we got him. Thanks again;)

Dear Carolyn,

We love JAX very much. He is a bit hyper and loves loves loves to eat, well shoes, homework and anything else he can find. He loves to go to the dog park and takes a long walk every night with my son Dominick before bed. He has grown to 60 lbs already and the vet said he has a bit more growing to do. Thank you so much for checking in with us. We love our big boy!

Have a great weekend,

I just wanted to let you know that Scooby is getting more friendly and happy every day.  We drove to DC with us this past weekend when we went to visit my daughter's family with a 2 year old chasing him around and 2 very big dogs.  He did great both in the car and at their house.  Now he is reverting back to puppy stages (stealing shoes, dragging blankets, etc.)  Oh I forgot to tell you we named Rock - Scooby (because Scooby Do is afraid of a lot of things) seems to like his new name.

We love Burt so much. He is the kindest most loving pet I've ever had. We took him to the vet and with medication were able to clear up his nose/eye congestion. It's just unbelievable how much love this little guy has. We are so blessed to have him in our family!

Thank you so much for bringing Burt into our lives!

Hi! Just wanted to send over a few pics of Piper (aka Kokomo). She's settling nicely and is already such a big part of our family. Her favorite time of the day (besides breakfast/lunch/dinner) is when she follows me around at night, tucking the kids into bed at the end of the day. She hops in each bed and gets a little pat from each kiddo before following me to bed.  She still loves her feather wands as well as all the hugs, kisses and affection from us all.

Hi Carolyn and everyone at Paws Here,
Obi is doing great! He has adapted very well to our household routine and has charmed the neighborhood as we go on our twice daily walks. We are working on one undesirable behavior and we know that with patience and consistency, we will solve the issue. Obi learned the boundaries of our backyard invisible fence quite quickly and spends happy times chasing his tennis ball outdoors.
Regards to all,
